Migrating to PrestaShop 9 – how to prepare your store
PrestaShop 9 is a new major version of the platform. We explain what to check before migrating and how to move to it without losing data or Google rankings.

PrestaShop 9 is the next major version of the popular e-commerce platform, based on newer versions of PHP and the Symfony framework. A new major version also means changes that may affect the modules, theme and custom modifications of your store – that is why the migration should be planned carefully.
What to check before migrating
- Modules – whether every module you use has a version compatible with PrestaShop 9, and if not, what to replace it with.
- Theme – whether the theme and its modifications will work after the update.
- Custom code changes – overrides and modifications that need to be moved or rewritten.
- Server – whether your hosting meets the requirements of the new version.
- Integrations – payments, carriers, ERP and marketplaces.
How we carry out the migration
We work on a copy of the store, not on the live version. First we check compatibility, then we update the store in a test environment, test the entire purchase process and only then switch the store over. We make sure products, customers and order history are preserved, and wherever URLs change, we set up 301 redirects so the store does not lose its Google rankings.
